Design Considerations on Semi-Submersible Columns, Bracings and Pontoons for Floating Wind

چکیده

Floating offshore wind turbine (FOWT) is an innovative technology with little industry guidance for its hull design. Various FOWT floaters different shapes claim to support the same turbines. Structural integrity and material expense analyses of pontoon were conducted, it was found that some configurations, such as those every two columns connected by both bracing, have advantages over others. However, important note choice shape should be based on wave loading conditions floater will exposed to. While a T-shaped provides cost-effective solution under certain scenarios, may not best option all conditions. Specifically, ring designs full bracing necessary withstanding loads. Therefore, consider Dominant Load Parameters (DLP) ensure can withstand applicable DLPs. An uneven hexahedral column shape, which combines attributes square round shapes, proposed better alternative cylindrical columns. It offers ease manufacture reasonably low drag. Bracing turbine’s incurred moment forces. The conclusion platform design prioritize manufacturing costs strength maximizing hydrodynamic performance.

Integrated System Design for a Large Wind Turbine Supported on a Moored Semi-Submersible Platform

Over the past few decades, wind energy has emerged as an alternative to conventional power generation that is economical, environmentally friendly and, importantly, renewable. Specifically, offshore wind energy is being considered by a number of countries to harness the stronger and more consistent wind resource compared to that over land. To meet the projected “20% energy from wind by 2030” sc...

Learning Design Rules for Wind Bracings in Tall Buildings

This paper describes a methodology for applying machine learning to problems of conceptual design, and presents a case study of learning design rules for wind bracings in tall buildings. Design rules are generated by induction from examples of minimum weight designs. This study investigates the applicability of machine learning methods which are capable of constructive induction, that is of aut...

Numerical modeling of wave run-up along columns of semi-submersible platforms

Wave run-up is one of the most important and effective parameters in designing semi-submersible platforms. Besides unforeseen effects on the movements and response of the platform, wave run up can also cause slamming forces to be exerted on the lower deck of the platform. Therefore, at the first stages of this plan, before running tests on the model of the platform, numerical methods are usuall...

Floating pontoons create novel habitats for subtidal epibiota.

Urban structures in the form of pontoons and pilings represent major coastal habitats for marine organisms and understanding the factors causing abundances of organisms to differ between these and natural habitat has been neglected in the study of coastal ecology. It has been proposed that composition of substrata explain differences previously described between subtidal assemblages of epibiota...

Conceptual Design of Floating Wind Turbines

The need for different numerical models with varying degrees of simplification for the conceptual design of a floating offshore wind turbine is the focus of this paper. While parts on the component level can be designed apart from the others the overall dynamics on the system level have to be assessed from the beginning. Starting with very simple models and identifying the significant contribut...
